WhatsApp marketing ROI calculator, what a campaign really returns

This WhatsApp marketing ROI calculator turns six numbers, contacts messaged, cost per message, read rate, how many readers reply, how many repliers order, and average order value, into estimated orders, revenue, campaign cost and return on spend. It's arithmetic, not prophecy: the answer is exactly as honest as the rates you type in, so pull them from your own past campaigns wherever you have them.

The formula, in plain terms

ROI is what came back, minus what you spent, as a share of what you spent: ROI % = (revenue − cost) ÷ cost × 100. A campaign that costs ₹2,500 and produces ₹10,000 in attributed orders returns 300%.

Revenue sits at the end of a chain: contacts messaged, then how many read it, then how many readers reply, then how many of those actually order, times what an order is worth. The calculator multiplies that chain out so you can see which link in it moves the answer before you spend anything.

One thing to know about the cost side: the calculator counts Meta's per-conversation fee across every contact you message, and nothing else. Your Growcord plan fee sits outside it, because a monthly subscription split across four campaigns isn't a per-campaign cost in any useful sense. The table further down puts the plan fee back in so you can see both halves of the bill.

What each input means, and where to get an honest number

The calculator opens on placeholders: 2,000 contacts at ₹0.85, an 85% read rate, 15% of readers replying, 20% of those ordering, ₹800 an order. Multiply that chain and 2.55% of the whole list buys, more optimistic than the "Strong" column in the table below. Replace all six numbers.

  • Contacts in the campaign. How many opted-in people receive the broadcast. Opted-in matters for the maths, not only for compliance: bought lists reply worse, get you blocked, and drag down the quality rating that controls your messaging limits.
  • Cost per message sent. A marketing conversation in India runs roughly ₹0.78–0.88 on Meta's side, depending on volume. Growcord passes Meta's published rate through with zero markup, so this field is Meta's number, not ours, the conversation pricing guide breaks the categories down. Order updates and other utility messages cost a fraction of that, which makes their arithmetic a different exercise.
  • Read rate. WhatsApp read rates get quoted well above email's, but "widely quoted" is not your list. After one campaign your own delivered and read counts are sitting in the campaign report, use those and stop guessing this field forever.
  • Reply rate of readers. The share of readers who tap a button or type back. Template wording, offer and send time all land here, which makes it the field a rewrite can actually move.
  • Orders from replies. The share of repliers who buy. A ₹400 impulse offer converts the same day; a ₹40,000 jewellery enquiry converts after a store visit and a week of thinking. Use the number that matches what you sell.
  • Average order value. What a typical order is worth, if you don't know, your billing software does: last month's revenue divided by last month's orders. Plan fees are not an input here. Growcord plans run ₹299–₹5,999/month (₹99–₹2,999 billed yearly), and you add that on yourself when you're judging one campaign against a whole month's subscription.

Arithmetic illustration only, Meta marketing fees taken at ₹0.85 per contact, plan fee at Startup's ₹799/month. These are not predicted results; your order rate depends on your list, offer and timing.

Reading the result without fooling yourself

Three habits keep the calculator useful. First, run the pessimistic case: halve your response rate, halve your order rate, and check whether the campaign still clears break-even, a campaign that only works at optimistic rates isn't a plan, it's a hope.

Second, count costs fully: Meta's fee applies to every contact you message, not just the ones who reply, which is why blasting 10,000 lukewarm contacts often returns less than messaging the 2,000 who bought before. Third, attribute honestly, an order that would have happened anyway isn't campaign revenue, however nice it looks in the report.

The lever ordering surprises people. Doubling your list rarely doubles revenue, because the added names are usually colder than the ones you started with. Doubling response quality, a sharper template, tighter segmentation, an offer with a reason to reply today, moves every downstream number at zero extra Meta cost.

That's the honest pitch for segmented campaigns: a send to "bought in the last 90 days" beats a blast to everyone on ROI even while it loses on reach. And when you compare channels, run the same three rates, the WhatsApp vs SMS vs email question is only ever whether a higher reply rate pays for a higher per-message cost.

The plan fee is the one line you pick outright. At 2,000 marketing messages, Meta takes about ₹1,700 whichever platform sends them; Growcord's Basic plan puts ₹299 a month on top of that, or ₹99 billed yearly.

An entry plan listed at around ₹1,500/month, AiSensy's, as published in August 2026, adds five times as much to the identical send, and the customer opening the message cannot tell which one paid for it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate ROI for WhatsApp marketing?

Divide profit by cost: ROI % = (campaign revenue − campaign cost) ÷ campaign cost × 100. Campaign cost is Meta's per-conversation fee times the contacts you messaged, plus your platform fee; revenue is orders attributed to the campaign times average order value. The calculator above chains the rates, read, respond, order, so you can see the contribution of each step.

How much does a WhatsApp broadcast cost per message in India?

Roughly ₹0.78–0.88 per marketing conversation on Meta's side, varying with volume. Utility messages such as order updates are far cheaper, roughly ₹0.115–0.13, and replies to customers inside the 24-hour service window cost nothing. Growcord bills those fees as credits at Meta's published rate with zero markup; the subscription is where we earn, starting at ₹299/month or ₹99/month billed yearly.

What is a good conversion rate for a WhatsApp campaign?

There is no universal benchmark worth trusting, rates vary hugely with list quality, offer and category, and vendor blog numbers skew toward best cases. The sane approach: run one small campaign to a warm segment, read the real delivered, read and replied numbers from your report, and feed those into the calculator. Your own worst campaign is a better input than someone else's best.

Does the calculator include Meta's conversation charges?

Yes, that's the cost-per-message field, and it is the only cost the tool counts. Enter what one marketing conversation costs you (roughly ₹0.78–0.88 in India; Growcord charges Meta's published rate with zero markup) and it multiplies that across every contact messaged, replied or not. Your monthly plan fee is deliberately left out, add it yourself when you're weighing a single campaign against a full month's subscription.

Is a WhatsApp ROI calculator accurate?

It's exactly as accurate as its inputs. The arithmetic is trivial; all the uncertainty lives in your response and order rates. Treat the output as a break-even check, what response rate does this campaign need before it pays? rather than a revenue forecast. After each real campaign, replace guesses with your report numbers and the estimate tightens fast.
